papa mbye (pronounced ehm-bay) is a Senegalese artist based in Minneapolis, refusing to be boxed in by any single genre. ULTRAVIOLET is an earnest, softly sung love letter over hi-fi electro-pop production that builds with jet propulsion until it flickers and explodes like fireworks. It's the lead single off his second EP, PARCELLES 16, named after the address of his uncle's home in Senegal. While in Senegal for a family member’s funeral, he experienced a layer of grief. A certain sadness for roads not traveled and paths not taken. He went to his origins looking for answers but came back with more questions.
